Images

GENERAL OVERVIEW
Images are a great way to make your app stand out. The better your images are, the better your perceived value will be.

**IMPORTANT**
Keep in mind that the speed of each page your app will be dependent upon, of course, the speed of your data/wifi connection, but it will also be dependent upon the image sizes contained on that page. For example, if your home screen image is 1MB it will take 5x as long to load when compared to a home screen image that is 200KB.

Also, if you change your icon or loading screens, your app will require a resubmission to the app stores.

GENERAL GUIDELINES PER PAGE/TYPE
HOME SCREEN BACKGROUND IMAGE
Most Devices
– Dimension: 640w x 920h pixels
– Recommended Size: ≤ 250KB
– Recommended Type: PNG or JPEG
iPhone 5 & 6
– Dimension: 750w x 1294h pixels
– Recommended Size: ≤ 250KB
– Recommended Type: PNG or JPEG
Android Tablet
– Dimension: 1600w x 2560h pixels
– Recommended Size: ≤ 750KB
– Recommended Type: PNG or JPEG
iPad
– Dimension: 1536w x 2048h pixels
– Recommended Size: ≤ 750KB
– Recommended Type: PNG or JPEG

HOME SCREEN LOGO
– Recommended Dimension: 1536w x 614h (biggest), 750w x 300h (smallest)
– Recommended Size: ≤200KB
– Recommended Type: PNG with transparent background

HOME SCREEN CAROUSEL WITH PHONES
– Recommended Dimension: 1400w x 840h pixels
– Recommended Size: ≤ 200KB per image
– Recommended Type: PNG or JPEG
**Note: Because of the responsive design, it is best to leave about 100 pixels on the bottom that are not critical to the design to allow for proper display on various devices.

HOME SCREEN CAROUSEL WITH IPADS
– Recommended Dimension: 1536w x 922h pixels (readable text should be within the top 700 pixels)
– Recommended Size: ≤ 250KB per image
– Recommended Type: PNG or JPEG
**NOTE: Assuming that the image is 1536 pixels wide, if there is text, it should fit within the top 700 pixels of height. The image can have additional height, but to ensure the text fits in the slider image, it should follow these guidelines. The image does not have to be 1536 pixels wide – it can be more or less – but the ratios should scale with any width adjustments that are made.

APP ICON
– Required Dimension: 1024 x 1024 pixels
– Recommended Size: No recommended size
– Required Type: PNG with NO transparency
**NOTE: Apple will reject any apps whose icons have transparencies.

HOME SCREEN TAB ICONS
– Dimension: 200 x 200 pixels
– Recommended Size: The smaller, the better (see Pro Tip #1)
– Recommended Type: PNG

IMAGE THUMBNAILS
This refers to thumbnails found in widgets such as the Folder widget and sections within widgets like the Media Center, Places, People, etc.
– Dimension: 300 pixels in width
– Recommended Size: The smaller, the better (see Pro Tip #1)
– Recommended Type: PNG or JPEG

PRO TIP #1: SIZING OPTIMIZATION
TinyPNG is an amazing resource that will compress the size of your png photos while maintaining their quality. We use them regularly and have seen images compressed up to 94% without losing any quality. They even have a Photoshop plugin to make the process even faster.

PRO TIP #2: FORMATTING
Some image types are fixed, while others are responsive, which means that the image dimensions and ratio will vary slightly per device to achieve the best UI possible. Some of these images include carousel images, “most devices” home screen image, and top logo. In all these cases, it is recommended that you leave a margin of about 50-100 pixels around the top and bottom edges to account for this responsiveness.

PRO TIP #3: TO-DON’TS
In order to keep your images looking their best, it is tremendously important that you NEVER stretch or squish an image. Like wearing plaid with stripes, this will only lead to a bad first impression and make your users never want to take you “on a date” again.
